Selena Gomez shares then and now bikini snaps as she discusses her body image: 'Sometimes I forget it's OK to be me'

Gomez previously described portraying herself online as someone who didn't care about the criticism - when in reality she was 'crying my eyes out'; Seen in January at Golden Globes

Selena Gomez shared a little body positivity to her Instagram on Monday.

The actress, 31, posted a throwback snap in a tiny zebra bikini, followed by a more current bathing suit photo which saw her displaying a fuller figure in high-waisted bikini bottoms and a white tube top.

'Today, I realized I will never look like this again...' Selena — who previously admitted to 'crying my eyes out' over body shaming comments — wrote over the first photo, taken in Miami, Florida, in 2013

'I'm not perfect but I am proud to be who I am... sometimes I forget it's ok to be me,' she wrote on the next image, taken in Mexico in 2023.

Selena has shared body positivity messages a number of times in the past. Last February she also went after body shamers while revealing that her lupus medication is responsible for her weight gain.

Earlier in the day Gomez went make-up free and sported grey cashmere-style sweats with beige fuzzy slides for a pamper session at the skincare salon Face Place in West Hollywood.

The pop star had her hands full as she arrived to the 52-year-old facility - which offers medical aesthetic procedures like Botox, Radiofrequency Microneedling, Kybella, and Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening.

Last February Gomez said she will 'never be a model' as she went after online trolls who have commented on her body.

The Only Murders In The Building actress explained that she will 'hold a lot of water weight' due to several medications she takes and also encouraged fans to practice self-love even in moments of feeling shame.

The Lose You to Love Me singer - who has previously been vocal about her autoimmune disease diagnosis and mental health journey - also said: 'When I'm off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.'

While continuing to celebrate body positivity, the former Disney star expressed that the minor side effect is incomparable to her health: 'My medications are important, and I believe they are what helps me.'

In response to the haters, she told them to 'go away, 'cause, honestly, I don't believe in shaming people for [their] body or anything.'

'So, yeah, not a model,' she said, adding, 'Never will be.'

'Today, I realized I will never look like this again...' she wrote over the first photo, which saw her rocking a tiny zebra bikini and showing off her toned physique

She added: 'And I think they're awesome - mind you - I just, I'm definitely not that.'

The hitmaker then continued to encourage her fans to practice self-love and acceptance.

'I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they're going through and nobody knows the real story,' she said.

'I just want people to know that you're beautiful and you're wonderful.'

The Wizards of Waverly Place alum also stressed the importance of her health over appearances.

'And yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s***, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself,' she said.

The month prior, the Rare Beauty founder shut down more body shaming comments she received after attending the 2023 Golden Globes.

In an Instagram Live, Selena asked her nine-year-old half-sister Gracie: 'I'm a little bit big right now, because I enjoyed myself during the holidays, right?'

Gracie appeared to agree before Selena added, 'But we don't care.'

She also called out body shamers in 2022 in a clip on her TikTok Stories.

'Honestly, I don't care about my weight because people b***h about it anyway. You're too small, you're too big, that doesn't fit, Meh meh meh meh.'

'B***h, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye,' she concluded.

However, last year the star shared she was more deeply impacted by body shamers than she had initially let on in an episode of the Apple TV+ docuseries, Dear...

Gomez described portraying herself online as someone who didn't care about the criticism - when in reality she was 'crying my eyes out'.

'I lied. I would go online and I would post a picture of myself and I would say, 'It doesn't matter. I'm not accepting what you're saying,' she said. 'All the while, being in the room posting and crying my eyes out because nobody deserves to hear those things.'

The Lose You To Love Me singer announced she had undergone kidney transplant in September 2017.

Her friend Francia Raisa made the life-saving decision to donate her kidney to Gomez, who at just 24 had suffered organ damage relating to her lupus diagnosis.

WHAT IS LUPUS?

What is lupus?

It is one of the chronic autoimmune conditions, where the body makes antibodies against itself and starts to attack it. Lupus – Systemic Lupus Erythematotsus (SLE) – has a range of severity. Some sufferers will have only mild problems, others have life-threatening organ damage to the heart and the kidneys.

What are the symptoms?

Tiredness, joint pains and muscle aches. A common first symptom is joint stiffness, particularly in the mornings. Skin and hair problems are a major feature of SLE – a rash in the shape of a butterfly over the cheeks and nose is common, as is hair loss and sensitivity to the sun. Other problems include depression and lung and heart disease, as well as kidney inflammation.

What can it be mistaken for?

It is often mistaken for other joint problems such as rheumatoid arthritis which is also characterised by morning joint stiffness. It can also be misdiagnosed as a skin or blood disease.

How is it diagnosed?

If your GP suspects SLE they will request a blood test. The specific antibodies that attack the body can be measured in the blood. The diagnosis is made when there is the combination of typical symptoms and high antibodies.

Who is at risk?

SLE is ten times more common in women than men and usually develops between the ages 12 and 25.

What is the treatment?

Controlling the symptoms, as there is no cure, using anti-inflammatories and steroid tablets in more severe cases.

Kate Middleton's health history revealed, from her battle with extreme morning sickness to the three-inch scar running down her head

If I felt under intolerable pressure back then, goodness only knows how Kate must feel. Not only is she constantly on parade, so are her three children, and the scrutiny is intense. She has to be the perfect wife and mother as well as fulfilling her duties as a key member of the Royal Family and, of course, always looking like she's just stepped out of the salon

The Princess of Wales will spend up to two weeks in hospital after a successful abdominal surgery, it was revealed today.

Kate Middleton, 42, was admitted to a London hospital yesterday for the planned operation and is expected to stay there for 10 to 14 days.

The future Queen will the return home to Windsor to continue her recovery.

The reason for the procedure has not been shared but it is understood to be non-cancerous.

Here, MailOnline details her health history.

Three-inch scar on head

Kate has a three-inch scar on the left side of her head from when she was a child.

It was first spotted in 2011 when the princess was conducting her first solo royal engagement at a black-tie private dinner at Clarence House.

It was confirmed to be the result of surgery carried out when she was a young child.

An official statement explained that 'the scar related to a childhood operation,' but said that details of the operation were a private matter.

Royal sources confirmed that it had been 'a very serious operation' but declined to comment further.

However, surgeons at the time said the scar is unlikely to be the result of a tumour and may have been caused by a birth mark being removed.

Morning sickness

The Princess was hospitalised for three days with severe morning sickness in 2012, while she was pregnant with Prince George.

She was admitted to King Edward VII's Hospital — a private hospital in Marylebone that has been used by the Royal Family for more than a century.

Kate went on to suffer again from hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) while pregnant with Princess Charlotte in 2014 and Prince Louis in 2018.

The condition saw the Princess announce her later two pregnancies early, before reaching the crucial 12-week stage.

HG can lead to severe dehydration and puts both mother and baby at risk of being deprived of essential nutrients, as they are unable to keep food and drink down.

Sufferers can be left vomiting up to 30 times a day, with exhausting and hazardous consequences.

Kate revealed in 2020 that she used meditation and deep breathing to help her control her symptoms.

Abdominal surgery

The Princess had planned abdominal surgery and will spend up to two weeks in hospital, royal aides revealed today.

Kate was admitted to The London Clinic in Marylebone yesterday for the planned procedure and is expected to remain in hospital for ten to 14 days.

She will then return home to Windsor to continue her recovery with the support of her family, Kensington Palace said.

It is understood not to be cancerous but no other details of the surgery was given.

The Princess is likely to be advised to recuperate for two to three months.

The NHS recommends deep breathing, circulation, core and chair and standing exercises to recover from abdominal surgery.

Kate's return to official duties will depend on medical advice closer to the time but she is not expected to return to public events until after Easter.

Atletico Madrid 4-2 Real Madrid. Griezmann -KO Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid 4-2 Real Madrid: Antoine Griezmann scores stunning 100th-minute solo strike before Rodrigo Riquelme seals Copa Del Rey win for Atleti over arch-rivals in heated Madrid derby clash

  • Atletico Madrid fended off their arch-rivals in Thursday's six-goal encounter
  • Jude Bellingham's Real Madrid twice fought back to equalise in the thriller
  • Ivan Toney is ambitious and wants to win titles... you can't begrudge him that!

Antoine Griezmann scored a brilliant 100th minute winner to settle a raucous, anarchic six-goal Madrid-derby cup last-16 game that started on Thursday night and finished just inside Friday morning.

It rained goals; it rained yellow cards, and the man who was honoured before the game for having already become Atletico’s all-time top scorer made the most decisive contribution.

Griezmann had had a relatively quiet night, but in the first half of extra time with all around him running out of gas, he accelerated down the right away from Vinicius, who was chasing back desperately trying to make amends having given the ball away, and rifled the ball into the roof of Andriy Lunin’s net.

It was the goal that knocked Real Madrid out of the cup, and served up a hard-fought revenge for Atletico who had been beaten 5-3 by them in the Spanish Super Cup just five days before.

Real Madrid had the better of the first phase of the marathon slugging match and when Bellingham led Atletico Madrid’s defence a merry dance weaving around Axel Witsel and Rodrigo de Paul his shot hit the crossbar.

Antoine Griezmann scored in the 100th minute before Rodrigo Riquelme's 119th-minute goal won it for Atletico Madrid against their arch rivals

Despite Madrid being on top it was Atletico who took the lead five minutes before the break when Rodrigo de Paul’s cross struck Griezmann on the head making Antonio Rudiger’s clearance more difficult. He could only clear it to Samu Lino who scored past Lunin at the back post.

MATCH FACTS

Atletico Madrid (3-5-2): Oblak; Witsel, Giménez, Hermoso; Llorente (Barrios 98'), De Paul (Azpilicueta 105', Savic 116'),  Koke, Saúl (Molina 56'), Lino (Riquelme 90+2'); Morata (Depay 98'), Griezmann

Subs: Grbic, Soyuncu, Correa, Galán, Gomis

Booked: Hermoso, De Paul, Koke, Morata, Griezmann, Witsel

Goals: Lino 39', Morata 57', Griezmann 100', Riquelme 119'

Manager: Diego Simeone

Real Madrid (4-3-1-2): Lunin; Carvajal, Rüdiger, Nacho (Garcia 105'), Mendy (Díaz 66'); Valverde (Tchouaméni 73'), Camavinga (Ceballos 105'), Modric (Kroos 66'); Bellingham; Rodrygo (Joselu 80'), Vinícius Jnr

Subs: Guler, Arrizabalaga, Piñeiro, Martín, Tobias

Booked: Diaz, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Bellingham, Vinicius Jnr, Carvajal

Goals: Oblak OG 45+1', Joselu 82'

Manager: Carlo Ancelotti

The lead did not last until the break because right on half time Luka Modric crossed into the area. Saul, Mario Hermoso and Rudiger all jumped together and Oblak, coming in behind them, sliced his punch straight into his own net.

Vinicius celebrated in front of the Atletico supporters, he had already been booked for complaining to the referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez about a second ball being thrown on to the pitch by a ball-boy as Real Madrid tried to take a quick throw.

As is always the case when such close rivals are drawn to play each other several times in quick succession the familiarity breeds no end of contempt. Tempers were running high and Bellingham was furious just before Vinicius’ yellow when Lino tried to get him booked.

Bellingham’s arm brushed the Atletico wing-back’s face but he went down as if he had been punched and Bellingham ran to him and hauled him up.

Bellingham started the second half as he had started the first drifting past three Atletico players inside the home team’s area. This time he crossed into the six-yard box but there was no one to finish.

In seven single-leg cup ties against Real Madrid in the Simeone era all of them had gone to extra time and this already looked like going the same way. Alvaro Morata had other ideas, however, and on 58 minutes he put Atletico back in front.

Marcos Llorente’s pass was diverted goalwards by Eduardo Camavinga. Lunin came out but not to smother the loose ball. Instead he tried to push it out back into play and his clearance hit the onrushing Rudiger and rolled to Morata who nudged it over the line for his 18th goal of the season in all competitions.

The fuse was lit once more for another heated spell in which substitute Brahim Diaz was booked for retaliating at Hermoso who was also cautioned for having fouled him.

In all the excitement Vinicius was now playing two games – one with the ball and another with the Atletico players and supporters. Hermoso whispered something in his ear. He also earned a long disapproving stare from Ancelotti after an unnecessary flick.

Meanwhile the ball-boys and girls were at it again. Some perceived time wasting prompted the referee to talk to the home team’s bench.

With 15 minutes left Rodrygo hit the bar as Madrid edged closer to another equalizer.

The tactical fouls were now coming fast and furious and so were the cards. Koke was cautioned for a push that gave Real Madrid a free-kick on the edge of the area that substitute Toni Kroos could not make the most of.

Joselu was also on and he leveled for Real Madrid with seven minutes left. Vinicius played it to Bellingham’s whose cross to the big centre-forward was perfect. Joselu launched himself at it to power it past Oblak and make it 2-2.

Simeone was booked for complaining about the exuberance of Vinicius’ celebration and he went after the Brazilian on the final whistle to further make his point.

The referee finished the 90 minutes with 12 bookings and for a tired lunge at Jose Gimenez, Bellingham’s name had been added to that list. Griezmann scored the first goal of the added half hour.

There was still time for a couple more cards and for Bellingham to draw a point-blank save from Oblak, and set-up Dani Ceballos whose goal was ruled out for offside.

When Rodrigo Riquelme swept in Atletico's fourth Simeone charged down the touchline to embrace his fitness coach.

Atletico Madrid were safely in Friday’s quarter-final draw; Real Madrid can now not win everything this season; and there’s another Madrid derby in the league next month.
