Ermittler über Razzien: Mutmaßliche Terroristen hatten Berlin im Visier. STOP, STOP

BilderTerrorverdacht: Razzien in drei Bundesländern

Luis Suarez scores four and Lionel Messi bags a hat-trick as Gary Neville's Copa del Rey dream is dashed. Barcelona 7- 0 Valencia:

  • Gary Neville's Valencia were demolished by rampant Barcelona as they shipped seven in the Copa del Rey semi-final
  • Luis Suarez scored the opener for Barcelona inside 10 minutes after being played in by fellow ace Neymar
  • Sergio Busquets laid Suarez's second on a platter for him as the Uruguayan bagged his 33rd for the season
  • Lionel Messi scored the third and was then brought down in the box, leading to Shkodran Mustafi being sent off
  • Neymar missed the penalty, before Messi scored his second for the game which brought up his 500th for his career
  • Messi then brought up his hat-trick and Suarez added a late fourth to his personal tally to complete the rout

Gary Neville stood with his hand stuffed into his pockets, alone in his technical area, looking forlornly towards Valencia's goal.
The clock inside the Nou Camp showed only 13 minutes had passed but Neville knew, as did everyone else inside the stadium, that the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final was over. Soon the tie would be, too.
When Barcelona are in this rampant mood, there is nothing opponents can do other than brace themselves for a night of unrelenting misery and that is exactly what Neville was given on his first trip to the Nou Camp as Valencia manager. This, he confessed, was one of the worst nights of his career.

Barcelona scored seven unanswered goals - four for Luis Suarez, a hat-trick for Lionel Messi - and only for some showboating, the final scoreline would have reached double figures. Had that been the case, there could have been no complaints. Barcelona were spellbinding.
Neville had wanted to keep things tight, to make Barcelona work, but the task was hopeless. This was the equivalent of someone trying to put a blaze out in one area when an inferno was starting somewhere else. If it wasn't Neymar casting spells down the left, Messi tormented Valencia through the middle or Suarez ran amok from the right. For anyone else other than Neville, this was a fiesta of football for the eyes.
Inevitably, there were questions about whether he would offer his resignation - 'no' was the brusque reply - but that refusal to quit should not be confused with realism. Neville knows he must win his first La Liga game against Real Betis on Sunday.
'I wish the Betis game started in 10 minutes,' said Neville. 'This is one of the most painful experiences of my career. My positivity is immovable but when you have moments like this it is not nice. I was standing out there feeling helpless. I was trying to change it but I knew the tide was against us.'
It wasn't so much against them, more washing all over them. Suarez, the best centre forward in the world, started this rout with a magnificent finish, bent past Valencia keeper Mathew Ryan after Neymar had robbed Andre Gomes, a player whom Neville holds in high regard, and sprinted 40 yards to free the Uruguayan.
Neymar was the creator for goal No 2, cushioning a ball into Suarez's pass after Sergio Busquets had spread play quite magnificently.
Then Messi took over, scoring the third in the 28th minute after Neymar and Suarez both outrageously dummied a ball from Andres Iniesta to leave him clear, finishing with the nonchalance you would expect if this was a training game.

A fourth should have arrived before half-time but Neymar fluffed his lines, striking a post from the penalty spot after Shkodran Mustafi had professionally fouled Messi in the area as he shaped to shoot, earning himself a red card in the process.
It didn't matter. Messi added another after the interval following a majestic back heel from Suarez that carved Valencia's defence wide open. It marked the 500th goal of the Argentine maestro's career.
And Messi's hat-trick was soon completed in the 74th minute, with one of those trademark moments, when Messi picked up a loose ball, skipped past two challenges and then thrashed a left-foot drive that zipped in at the neat post.

But there was still time for more as Suarez crowned a magnificent performance by completing his hat-trick with a header before adding a fourth with a thumping finish.
By now the party was in full swing, with every feint and shuffle prompting 'oles'; the Camp Nou crowd was even able to give the biggest cheer of the night to Denis Cheryshev, the winger Valencia signed on loan from Real Madrid on deadline day. Cheryshev was, remember, the ineligible player who Real Madrid fielded in this competition that triggered their expulsion.
The laughter could be heard all around but Neville's gait never changed. Hands in the pockets, looking towards his own goal, knowing nothing he did made the slightest difference. This was bad as he could ever have imagined.

Hillary Clinton’s Dutiful Slog (Iowa)

Hillary Clinton at her caucus rally in Des Moines on Monday night.
Late Monday, as the unfinished vote count suggested the slimmest of victories for Hillary Clinton, she stepped to a microphone, flashed an Oscar-worthy smile of triumph and told supporters that she was “breathing a big sigh of relief.”
She wasn’t. She isn’t. And she definitely shouldn’t be.
That’s not because what happened in Iowa — almost a tie between her and Bernie Sanders — substantially loosens her grip on the Democratic presidential nomination. Iowa was better terrain for Sanders than much of what lies ahead, and the dynamics that made her a heavy favorite to be the nominee before the state’s caucuses make her a heavy favorite still.

But Iowa demonstrated, yet again, what a flawed and tarnished candidate she is. And on the Republican side, the caucuses augured the possibility of a retreat from the party’s craziness and the rise of an adversary, Marco Rubio, who could give her trouble in a general-election matchup.

She should have trounced Sanders. Yes, he communicates authenticity to an electorate ravenous for it and has given potent voice to Americans’ economic angst. But little in his Senate career suggests that he’d be able to turn that oratory into remedy.
He’s no gushing font of political charisma. He’s a 74-year-old, self-proclaimed socialist who until fairly recently had minimal name recognition outside of Vermont.
President Obama clearly prefers Clinton. And in a poll of Democrats showing up for the Iowa caucuses, well over half said that they wanted someone who would continue Obama’s agenda — which is the precise pledge that Clinton has been making over the last few weeks — while only about one-third said that they preferred someone more liberal.
Even so, Clinton appears to have edged out Sanders by mere decimal points. How to explain it?
Perhaps with the sturdiest truism of politics: Elections are about the future. And so much about Clinton screams the past.
A rally of hers that I attended in Iowa last week actually began with a highlights reel of Clinton through time, including plenty of footage from the 1990s.
I understand why. The retrospective underscored her extraordinary experience. But nothing in her subsequent speech looked forward as stirringly as those images looked backward.

She’s forever stressing what she’s put up with, what she’s survived. “I’ve been around a long time,” she said in Des Moines a week ago, answering — but not really — a young voter’s question about the dearth of enthusiasm for her. “They throw all this stuff at me, and I’m still standing.”

It’s the language of drudgery and duty rather than inspiration, and she can sound as if she’s collecting on an i.o.u. and asking voters to complete her trajectory rather than begin one of their own.

At this point the Clintons are royalty, and royalty sits at a remove from all else. Among Democratic caucusgoers most concerned about voting for a candidate who cared about people like them, 74 percent picked Sanders, while only 22 percent chose Clinton. (Martin O’Malley got the remainder.)
For caucusgoers acting primarily on the basis of who they deemed most “honest and trustworthy,” 83 percent voted for Sanders, while just 10 percent voted for Clinton. That’s the toll of all the attention to her emails, a topic that’s not disappearing anytime soon.

She has a habit, whether addressing a large group or a small one, of diving so deeply into the weeds of a subject that she doesn’t so much impress listeners as exhaust them. To her credit, she has educated herself more thoroughly than other politicians. But she somehow hasn’t learned to wear that erudition lightly.

For months Democrats have been heartened by the absurdity with which Donald Trump infused the Republican primary and by the prospect of him or Ted Cruz as the party’s nominee. But his second-place showing could be his twilight, and Rubio’s strong third-place finish supports the scenario that he’s the one.

He poses a bigger threat to Clinton. He understands that she, like Jeb Bush, is an awkward fit for the national mood, and he’d try to take advantage of that. He leans hard on his youth. He talks about a new generation.
Clinton needs to persuade voters that as much as they’ve seen of her, she can still lead them to a place they’ve not yet seen. She hasn’t succeeded, and she slogs on from Iowa much as she did eight years ago: with more to prove than to savor.

Pep Guardiola Will Become Manchester City manager next season. 75 million euros / 3 years and 10 new players.

Louis van Gaal welcomes Pep Guardiola as Manchester United manager says he is 'very pleased' about new appointment at City

  • Pep Guardiola will become Manchester City manager next season
  • Louis van Gaal managed Guardiola during his time with Barcelona
  • The Manchester United boss is excited about Guardiola's arrival

Louis van Gaal declared he was 'very pleased' to hear Pep Guardiola had been appointed Manchester City manager.
After months of speculation, City announced on Monday that Guardiola would replace Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season.
Guardiola has earned a reputation as one of the best coaches in the world following successful spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, where he has collected a total of 19 trophies.

Many Manchester United fans had wanted the Catalan to replace Van Gaal as their boss, but the Dutchman is not fazed by the arrival of such a prestigious rival.
In fact, the 64-year-old says he is happy he will soon be reacquainted with the man he coached twice at Barcelona.
'He is my former captain so I am very pleased to see him,' the United manager said. 'And I can speak Spanish so it is convenient for him.'
The calls for Van Gaal to leave intensified two weeks ago when United slumped to a 1-0 home defeat by Southampton.
United supporters heckled the former Ajax manager as he walked down the touchline after the match but on Tuesday it was a different story.
United fans clapped their manager off after watching his team romp to an easy 3-0 win over Stoke.
Jesse Lingard, Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial found the net in a convincing victory that kept the Red Devils in fifth position, five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Afterwards, Van Gaal hailed his deadly forwards.
'The players have made a great performance,' he said. 'They performed well not only defensively but now also attackingly because we have created a lot of chances and we have made fantastic finishing of team goals. That is what I like to see. I am pleased. The finishing was also very good.'

The second goal was the pick of the lot - a curling effort from Martial on the edge of the box.
Eyebrows were raised when United paid an initial fee of £36million for the French forward last September and Van Gaal admits the 20-year-old is exceeding expectations.
'He was 19 (when he signed) and now he is 20 so that is surprising when you come from the French league to the Premier League and you can do this,' said Van Gaal, whose assistant Ryan Giggs was absent from the bench because of a family illness.
The winger's former United team-mate Mark Hughes could only watch on in despair as his Stoke team failed to repeat their heroics from Boxing Day against Van Gaal's side.
Hughes' evening was not helped by an injury to Philipp Wollscheid, who hobbled off in the first half and was replaced by Phil Bardsley, who had a torrid night trying to contain Martial.
Hughes is already without Ryan Shawcross for at least the next fortnight due to injury so he hopes Wollscheid is not out for a long time.
'He felt his calf in the warm-up and we tried to loosen it off but it was obvious he was struggling,' Hughes said of the German centre-back.
'We will have to check him. We are a bit threadbare in defensive areas so we have to hope we get some good news.'

Sarah Palin’s English (Iowa)

Photo
Sarah Palin introducing Donald Trump at a campaign event Monday in Iowa.

Sarah Palin has been mocked a lot for the way she talks, especially in her strange and rambling endorsement speech for Donald Trump. But her speeches on the campaign trail aren’t simple; they are actually incredibly complicated.

Her unusual style was on display at a Trump rally on Monday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “When both parties, the machines involved, when both of them hate you,” she said at one point, “then you know America loves you and we do love he who will be the next president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump!”

Let’s break that last part down: “We” love not just Donald Trump, or even just Donald J. Trump, but “he who will be the next president of the United States of America.”

Mrs. Palin relies heavily on this particular kind of dependent clause. “He is one who would know to negotiate,” she said of Donald Trump in her speech endorsing him on Jan. 19. Later in that speech, she spoke of “our own G.O.P. machine, the establishment, they who would assemble the political landscape.”

Mrs. Palin is also a big fan of the participial phrase. “And that blank check too,” she said on Monday, “making no sense because it’s led us to things, oh gosh, to pay the bills then, we have had to uh, print money out of thin air.”

In this case “making no sense” and everything that follows appear to modify “blank check”; though it can be a little hard to tell with Mrs. Palin, the participial phrase seems to function as an adjective. Elsewhere in her speech Mrs. Palin got more sophisticated.

“Politics being kind of brutal business,” she said, “you find out who your friends are, that’s for sure.”

Here, “politics being kind of brutal business” defines the circumstances under which the action occurs. It looks like a construction that will be familiar to anybody who took Latin in school: the ablative absolute.

An ablative absolute in Latin is a particular kind of clause that, according to one definition, “modifies the whole sentence as an adverb modifies the action of a verb.” An example, courtesy of The Latin Library: “His verbis dictis, Caesar discedit.” Translation: “With these words having been said, Caesar departs.”

In fact, a lot of what Sarah Palin says sounds like it’s been poorly translated from the Latin. With her “he who” and “one who,” she’d sound almost Ciceronian if it weren’t for the holes in her logic and the way those complicated sentences sometimes dribble off into vaguely sinister, possibly offensive nonsense.

Maybe Mrs. Palin or her speechwriters think the convoluted sentence structure makes her sound smart. Maybe they think it makes her sound heroic, like the orators of the past. Or maybe all those extra clauses are just a really good way to load up a sentence with praise — or insults. Here’s Mrs. Palin using both a dependent clause and a participial phrase to attack President Obama on Jan.

And he, who would negotiate deals, kind of with the skills of a community organizer maybe organizing a neighborhood tea, well, he deciding that, “No, America would apologize as part of the deal,” as the enemy sends a message to the rest of the world that they capture and we kowtow, and we apologize, and then, we bend over and say, “Thank you, enemy.”

I honestly am not sure what’s going on in this sentence. What I do know is that Sarah Palin has this in common with Roman orators: She loves to talk trash.

Pablo Iglesias malogra a Pedro Sánchez.
