A source confirms to the DailyMail.com that the 41-year-old actress rented the ocean front home three weeks before the Oscar-nominated star filed for divorce in a Los Angeles' court on September 19.
The five bedroom, five bath home is 4,409-square-feet and worth close to $12 million.
The gated compound is perfect for keeping herself and her children - Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, aged eight - away from prying eyes and her now-estranged husband.

The star is so intent on going to ground, that she has her security guard stationed at the front gates.

Angelina clearly has no plans to leave her fancy bunker, using her assistant to run out and grab anything she or her family need.

On Wednesday morning moving vans were seen arriving at the Los Feliz home.
It is not known what the vans picked up as the property Angelina has rented is fully furnished.
While Malibu homes near the water are usually short on space, this one is perfect for her children to play and get their minds off the collapse of their parents marriage.

Angelina filed for divorce from Brad on Monday for 'the health of her family', two years after the couple wed at their French estate Chateau Miraval.
The actress' celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser filed papers citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asked for physical custody of the couple's six children.

A source close to the couple said that Angelina, made the decision to file because of the way 'Brad was parenting the children,' adding that 'she was extremely upset with his methods'.
That same source claimed the star became 'fed up' with Brad's consumption of 'weed and possibly alcohol' mixed with his 'anger problem'.
According to TMZ, Angelina decided to pull the pin on their marriage due to an incident on September 14.
The couple and their six children were returning from Chateau Miraval last Wednesday when, according to TMZ, Brad allegedly got 'verbally abusive and physical with his children' while he was 'wasted.'
TMZ reported: 'The plane landed a week ago Wednesday just before 8 PM at an airport in Minnesota. That's when eyewitnesses say Brad was "out of control" on the tarmac and even tried to leave in a fuel truck.'
Reportedly both the FBI and the Los Angeles Department of Children's Services are now investigating the incident.
Angelina and Brad are said to have been interviewed as part of the probe, and there are plans for authorities to speak to the children.
An attorney for Angelina, Robert Offer, said Tuesday in a statement that she has filed for the dissolution of the marriage 'for the health of the family'.
He then added: 'She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.'
Angelina's manager Geyer Kosinski also released a statement, saying: 'Angelina will always do what's in the best interest to protect her children.
'She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this.

While the alleged in-air incident appeared like it was the final straw for the couple's relationship, the fact Angelina rented the home three weeks ago suggests the actress had long thought about ending her marriage.
It has also been reported that Angelina had concerns about her husband's fidelity.
Page Six claimed that it was after Angelina learned through a private eye that Brad may have been cheating on her with Marion Cotillard on the set of their new film Allied that she made the decision to split from the actor.
But a source close to the couple claims that the actress was so jealous of Marion that she refused to speak with the French star after meeting her on the set of the film Allied.
'Angelina completely ignored Marion on the set, and when Marion tried to talk to her she just looked the other way,' the source told DailyMail.com.
'Marion was devastated. Here she is thinking she is going to meet this great UN ambassador and instead Angelina refuses to speak to the woman because of her own jealousy.'
The source also said that rumors of an affair between Brad and Marion are '100 per cent false'.
When DailyMail.com asked for comment Marion's representative would not elaborate past the actress' comment on social media in which she denied any affair and professed her love for partner Guillaume Canet.
