Upton Park has already been the stage for one escape act by Louis van Gaal this season. On Tuesday night, as this famous old ground prepares to stage one last game, the Manchester United manager will attempt another.

Whether winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League would be enough to persuade United to keep Van Gaal for the third year of his contract remains the source of much conjecture.

The Dutchman certainly feels he will still be around next season and that has been the pervading mood at the club’s Carrington training base in recent weeks.

Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, meanwhile, has remained silent while speculation has continued over a move for Jose Mourinho.

There is little doubt, however, that Van Gaal will do his job prospects no harm at all if he can deliver a measure of success at the end of what has been a difficult and frustrating season.

Woodward would like nothing more than to see his choice of manager vindicated to any extent and a first trophy in three years, in addition to a Champions League place, would represent progress.

‘On the edge of being satisfactory,’ as former United favourite Paul Scholes told Sportsmail on Monday.

On each occasion the knives have been out for Van Gaal this season, he has come up with a result.

Last month, he survived a frantic finish at Upton Park as United held on for a 2-1 win in an FA Cup quarter-final replay.

Indeed, discussing the difficulty of countering Andy Carroll’s aerial threat on Tuesday in the absence of the suspended Marouane Fellaini — who scored the decisive goal on that occasion — Van Gaal couldn’t resist a little dig.

‘This is the first time we are talking about our opponent and not about my sacking,’ he said.

United return to East London with an unexpected opportunity to replace Manchester City in the top four which even they must have feared was beyond them at one point.

The task is simple: win their final two League games — they also entertain Bournemouth on the last day while City visit Swansea — and United will be in the Champions League, probably at City’s expense.

It is a scenario few would have predicted when Pep Guardiola’s summer move to the Etihad was confirmed at the start of February.

Now the Spaniard could kick off next season in the Europa League, with Van Gaal still across town to lead United’s assault on the Champions League.

The 64-year-old has seen enough of his team this season not to take anything for granted, however.

Van Gaal acknowledged that an emotional farewell to Upton Park will only work in West Ham’s favour.

‘It’s a negative for us, of course,’ he said. ‘We have to play against an opponent who says goodbye to the stadium so they don’t want to lose.

‘They have already lost to Manchester United in the last FA Cup match. That’s also history. It’s not good for us and West Ham United are a very good team, I think.

‘We have a lot of respect for West Ham. They are a historic, big club. We don’t want to spoil their party but we need the three points. That’s different.’

United could again be without Anthony Martial, who set up both goals last month. The Frenchman travelled with the squad on Monday but faces a late fitness test on his hamstring injury.

On the issue of Carroll’s height, he added: ‘Yes, I am very worried about that. We are normally the smallest team in the Premier League so we have problems with set-plays.’

Still, the Hammers lost 4-1 at home to Swansea on Saturday, and Van Gaal can have no excuse if United do not seize their chance.

Scholes has been one of the manager’s fiercest critics over the lack of identity and adventure in his team, but says he would not mind Van Gaal staying in charge next season as long as the brand of football improves.

‘It’s irrelevant who the manager is,’ said Scholes, speaking ahead of Tuesday'’s benefit match at Oldham for Ellis Robinson, a 17-year-old former Rochdale player who was left paralysed after a freak accident during a five-a-side game.

‘Whether it’s Ryan Giggs, Jose Mourinho or Louis van Gaal, I just want to see a Manchester United team that competes to win trophies in the right way.

‘I think it probably would have been a more acceptable season if it had been done with a more entertaining style of football, but it hasn’t been. Whoever is there next year, I want to see a change in approach. United teams always try to score goals. This team doesn’t seem in that mould but you have to give them a bit of credit for way they have finished.

‘If they win the FA Cup and get in the Champions League I think it’s right on the edge of being satisfactory.

‘I don’t think it’s where you want to be at the start of the season. If you’re at Manchester United you should be trying to win everything. You want to be challenging for the league and winning every competition you’re in — especially when you are spending so much money.

‘I don’t think it’s a disaster of a season but there wasn’t really a point where you thought they had a chance in the League.’

In that respect, fourth place wouldn’t be a bad outcome. As English football prepares to wave goodbye to Upton Park, we might have to wait longer than many expected for Van Gaal’s farewell.

Parece que no pasa un día sin que la familia real esté en boca de todos y este mes, ya arrancó con la que quizás sea la noticia más inesperada. Para su edición de centenario, la elegante Kate Middlenton celebra junto a Vogue UK con su primera portada para una publicación.

Vestida en un trench coat de gamuza, camisa blanca (ambos Burberry) y sombrero vintage, la duquesa posa con su anillo de compromiso para la lente del fotógrafo inglés, Josh Olins. Al igual que la entrañable Lady Di –quien realizó cuatro portadas para la revista– se espera que este número se convierta en éxito de quioscos.

La esencia de la originaria de Reading, fue capturada a la perfección con su característico look relajado en la propiedad de la familia, en Norfolk, Reino Unido. “Esta fue la primer sesión de la duquesa para una revista y fue un placer trabajar con ella, muy natural” aseguró Olinsa a Vanity Fair.

En cuanto a los atuendos del editorial que estará disponible a partir del 5 de mayo, Kate trabajó directamente con el equipo de moda para conseguir el look country chic que se aprecia entre páginas. 

Un vocero del palacio de Kesington, aseguró que este miércoles será “la primera vez” que la propia Kate tenga en sus manos el resultado final. Sin embargo, las imágenes que han sido reveladas hasta el momento la muestran con el mismo porte y frescura de siempre.

Todo parece indicar que Kate consiguió lo que por años, Diana Spencer intentó: ganarse su lugar en la familia real por mérito propio. Si bién Kate no es ajena a la ropa de diseñador, su carisma y afán por mantenerse fiel a su personalidad, han resultado un encanto para aquellos que miraban a la aristocracia con otros ojos.

Su primer editorial con toques de Burberry, también incluye una blusa de £35 de Petit Bateau y ya amenaza con volar de los estantes a velocidades estratosféricas. Brazil’s political tumult has descended into farce after a little known and newly appointed lower house speaker proclaimed the annulment of last month’s impeachment vote against Dilma Rousseff.

The surprise move – which was immediately challenged by senior figures in the senate – provided an absurd twist in the country’s ongoing political drama that would stretch the credibility of a House of Cards plot.

Just days before the senate was expected to adopt the motion and suspend the president, Waldir Maranhão – who took over as acting speaker last week – appeared to have thrown Rousseff a lifeline, by saying the vote needed to be rerun due to procedural flaws.

The Workers’ party leader was crushed in a boisterous and sometimes bizarre lower house impeachment vote on 17 April when more than two-thirds of deputies agreed that she should be removed from office for whitewashing government accounts with money borrowed from state banks ahead of her 2014 re-election campaign.

But Maranhão’s calls for the senate to return the process to the lower house were met with derision.

“To accept this joke would be to play with democracy,” said Renan Calheiros, the head of Brazil’s senate, in vowing to push ahead with a debate on whether to investigate the head of state.

“This has no legal or practical effect,” said Senator Raimundo Lira, who – like the vice-president, Michel Temer – is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement party (PMDB) that split from the ruling coalition earlier this year. “The lower house chamber lost complete control the moment that case was handed to the senate.”

Unless there is an intervention by the supreme court, the senate vote is now likely to go ahead.

Few, even in the Workers’ party, believe Rousseff will win.

Temer, who split with his former running mate, has already begun canvassing candidates for the interim government he expects to form later this week.

But Maranhão – a previously obscure politician from the Progressive party – has thrown a spanner into the works.

In a news release on Monday, he said the vote needed to be rerun due to procedural flaws. To do this, he called on the senate to return the impeachment process to the lower house.

Maranhão – who, like many Brazilian politicians, is under investigation for corruption – said the vote was flawed because the president was not given a final opportunity to defend herself and many deputies announced their votes ahead of time.

Rousseff gave a cautious response to the news. “It’s not official. I don’t know the consequences. We should be cautious,” she told local reporters, as she repeated her determination to keep fighting.

The political circus prompted confusion and embarrassment, even among experts and insiders.

“You know what the whole world should be thinking about us, Brazilians? Laughingstock,’’ observed the former chief justice Joaquim Barbosa.

Analysts said the annulment was likely to be overturned.

Temer, who was expected to form a new administration this week, has yet to comment publicly.“This decision by Maranhão won’t prosper. Even if the senate accepts his decision, which is unlikely, the supreme court will probably have the last word on the subject and they are unlikely to approve,” said Sylvio Costa of Congress in Focus.

Rousseff’s tormentor–in-chief Eduardo Cunha – the former speaker of the house – called Maranhão’s decision, “absurd, and irresponsible”.

Cunha, was himself suspended last week by the supreme court on the grounds that he was interfering in the Lava Jato (Car Wash) corruption investigation into alleged kickbacks from the state-run oil company, Petrobras.

Maranhão’s motives are the source of immense speculation. Last month, he defied his party line to vote against impeachment. Upon his appointment as interim speaker, he was reported as telling congressmen: “You all will be surprised with me.”

Chico Alencar, a PSOL politician, said Cunha may be behind this move.

“Is this just to create confusion? Who cares about this chaos? Will some will say that Cunha must return?” he tweeted.

If Maranhão has his way, the re-vote will take place within five sessions. If not, the senate will go ahead with impeachment.

If a majority of the 81 senators concurs then Rousseff will be suspended from office for 180 days while the upper house sits in judgment against her and Temertakes the helm.

Anything else, she said, would betray the 54 million people who voted for her. Regardless of the outcome of the decision in the lower house or the senate, she said would ultimately be vindicated in the consciousness of the Brazilian people.The president – a former Marxist guerrilla who was imprisoned and tortured in the 1970s – has railed against treachery and misogyny, and vowed to fight to the bitter end.

“That’s where we know history will make clear who is who in this process,” she said, repeating again that she would never resign. “First, because I am the elected president; second, because I have committed no crime; third, because if I resign, I leave and bury the living proof of a coup with absolutely no legal basis and which aims to hurt the interests and the achievements gained over the past 13 years. I have the willingness to resist. I will resist until the last day.”

Adding to the sense of chaos, the Lava Jato investigation continues to wreck havoc in the political and business worlds. Dozens of senior executives, congressmen and senior figures in the government and opposition have been arrested, charged or referred to the supreme court.

Among them are former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the heads of the upper and lower house and the runner-up in the 2014 presidential election, Aécio Neves.

The latest to be targeted by police is the former finance minister Guido Mantega, who was taken in for questioning on Monday.

UEFA-Präsident Michel Platini bleibt gesperrt. Der Internationale Sportgerichtshof CAS reduzierte allerdings die vom Fußball-Weltverband FIFA verhängte Sperre von sechs auf vier Jahre. Damit dürfte das Ende der Karriere des einstigen Weltklasseprofis als Fußball-Funktionär besiegelt sein. Kurze Zeit nach dem offiziellen Urteil des CAS teilte Platini in einer persönlichen Erklärung seinen Rücktritt als Chef der Europäischen Fußball-Union (UEFA) mit.

"Ich nehme die Entscheidung des CAS zur Kenntnis, erachte sie allerdings als große Ungerechtigkeit. Die Dauer der Sanktion verhindert es auch, bei der nächsten Wahl zum Präsidenten der FIFA zu kandidieren", teilte Platini über seinen Anwalt mit: "Wie mit den nationalen Verbänden vereinbart, trete ich von meinem Amt zurück, um nun vor den Schweizer Gerichten den Kampf für Gerechtigkeit voranzutreiben." Platini war 2007 als Nachfolger des Schweden Lennart Johansson zum Präsidenten der UEFA gewählt worden.

Der 60-jährige Platini war von der FIFA ebenso wie der frühere FIFA-Chef Joseph Blatter ursprünglich für acht Jahre gesperrt worden, später wurde die Sperre auf sechs Jahre reduziert. Hintergrund ist eine dubiose Zahlung in Höhe von zwei Millionen Schweizer Franken von Blatter an Platini im Jahr 2011. Blatters Fall soll zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt in diesem Monat vor dem CAS verhandelt werden.

Na niemieckim rynku wydawniczym ukazało się tłumaczenie powieści polskiego pisarza Zbigniewa Masternaka pt. „Nędzole”. To opowieść o współczesnych koczownikach poszukujących lepszego świata.

Emigranci, niewolnicy, żebracy, nędznicy. Tak w swojej książce „Nędzole” („Arme Hunde”) Zbigniew Masternak nazywa Polaków, którzy po otwarciu granic wyruszyli podbić Europę Zachodnią.

Bohaterami książki są marzący o karierze pisarza Zbigniew i studentka Renata. Zakochana para, nie widząc perspektyw w Polsce, postanawia wyemigrować do Francji. Problem w tym, że żadne z nich nie ma planu działaniu. Bez grosza przy duszy i z niewielkim plecakiem liczą, że uda im się szybko dorobić. Wróci się dobrym autem po paru latach harówy, wybuduje dom, to znajomym kopary opadną - rozmyślał bohater sącząc piwo w jednym z polskich barów w Orleanie. Tyle, że ani w Polsce, ani we Francji nie wiedział jak to zrobić.

W postać Zbigniewa wcielił się autor, który dziesięć lat temu sam wyruszył do Francji. Tak jak tułający się w powieści bohater spał pod mostem, oszukiwał w barze czy przebierał się w strój mnicha by wyżebrać trochę drobnych. Podczas rocznej emigracji pisarz dokumentował życie francuskiej polonii, której obraz stara się przedstawić w „Nędzolach”. - Jestem kronikarzem. Chciałem napisać książkę o emigracji Polaków, bo to część naszej kultury i fenomenalne zjawisko. Bałem się, że ktoś to zrobi przede mną -przyznaje autor.

Ucieczka z kraju

W książce Masternak z wyrozumiałością przygląda się swoimi bohaterom. Nie koloryzuje, atylko opisuje i dokumentuje zmagania ówczesnego pokolenia dwudziestolatków po otwarciu granic UE. Do głosu dochodzą kompleksy, wychodzi brak doświadczenia na rynkach międzynarodowych czy znajomości języków obcych.

Bohaterowie Masternaka nie tyle gonią za pieniędzmi, ile przede wszystkim uciekają z kraju. Oby jak najdalej od Polski. Brzydkiej, szarej i odrapanej, od podupadających wsi, marazmu i nudy. Dlaczego małe miasteczka francuskie potrafią żyć ze swych katedr, a Polska nie? (…) Dlaczego czterdziestomilionowy naród nie potrafił wydać ani jednego pisarza atrakcyjnego dla Europy Zachodniej - pyta zdesperowany bohater powieści. Piękna i zadbana Francja jawiła się jako idylla i oaza szczęścia.

"To nie rządy Tuska zmieniły Polskę"

Zdaniem autora, Polacy, którzy nie odnaleźli się we własnym kraju, niesłusznie liczą na taryfę ulgową we Francji. Emigrację młodego pokolenia Masternak nazywa „paniczną”. Twierdzi przy tym, że Polacy zyskali dzięki temu coś bardzo cennego - nauczyli się o siebie dbać.

- To nie rządy Tuska zmieniły Polskę. To sami Polacy, którzy nauczyli się dużo na emigracji i po powrocie do kraju wcielają to w życie. Odwiedzając regiony wschodniej Polski, widzę piękne domy zbudowane właśnie za pieniądze zarobione we Francji, Niemczech czy w Norwegii.

Masternak uczynił ze Zbigniewy i Renaty głos pokolenia, który mimo upływu lat nadal pozostaje aktualny. Ale jak na początku Niemcy czy Francuzi patrzyli na nas dziwnie, tak teraz to się zmieniło. -Jesteśmy członkami tej samej rodziny - dodaje pisarz.

"Arme Hunde" swoją premierę miały na tegorocznych targach książki w Lipsku. Ukazały się nakładem wydawnictwo KLAK VERLAG, które systematycznie penetruje polski rynek literacki. - Myślę, że moja powieść trafiła na odpowiedni czas w Europie Zachodniej i stąd się wzięło zainteresowaniewydawcy. Wszyscy przecież jesteśmy koczownikami, a dzisiejsza sytuacja z uchodźcami w Europie nie jest niczym nowym - podsumowuje Masternak.

To wprawdzie informacja nie z Polski, lecz z zagranicy, ale przynajmniej jest to „nareszcie dobra wiadomość” dotycząca naszego kraju, pisze niemiecka gazeta. Muzeum pokonało prawie 50 rywali. I choć budynek muzeum ma zniewalającą architekturę i mieści w sobie imponującą wystawę o tysiącletniej historii polskich Żydów, to za werdyktem, ogłoszonym podczas weekendu w hiszpańskim San Sebastian, stoją nie tylko względy estetyczne.

Nagroda nie estetyczna, lecz "programowa"

W Polsce, która pod rządami PiS odcina się od struktur demokratycznych, należy tę nagrodę rozumieć także programowo, pisze dziennik. Jurorzy piszą w uzasadnieniu werdyktu, że w muzeum zwiedzający je zostają skonfrontowani ze stale aktualnym pytaniem, „jak dalece koegzystencja może przekształcić się w całkowite zniszczenie ludności i kultury”. Odnosi się to wprawdzie do historii, lecz także dziś „trafia w nerw w kraju, którego rząd podważa najważniejsze osiągnięcia ostatnich 25 lat, począwszy od trójpodziału władzy, po wolność mediów”.

Rządzący wolą o takich faktach nie przypominać. Agnieszka Holland w niedawnym wywiadzie dla „Die Welt” opowiadała o tym, w jaki sposób państwowa telewizja opatrzyła krytycznymi komentarzami nagrodzoną Oskarem „Idę” – film, który opowiada o mordzie dokonanym przez Polaków na Żydach w czasie okupacji.

„Der Tagesspiegel” dodaje, że ramię w ramię z rządem idzie Kościół katolicki, pracując nad wizerunkiem Polski jako „bastionu chrześcijaństwa” i ruszając z krucjatą na rzecz absolutnego zakazu aborcji. Однак, судячи з усього, банки знайшли можливість оминути цю норму: вони здобувають через суд відстрочку платежу і таким чином уникають банкрутства.

До таких кроків вдалися, зокрема, Платинум Банк, що відноситься до групи великих установ, та Фінбанк з групи середніх. Перший заборгував 250 мільйонів гривень компанії МТС (3,57 відсотка від усіх зобов'язань банку), а другий - 79,95 мільйона гривень міжнародному аеропорту "Бориспіль" (14 відсотків від усіх зобов'язань банку). Обидва вкладника подали позови в суди щодо повернення грошей, і суди ухвалили рішення на їхню користь.

Але банки, в свою чергу, теж звернулися до судів, аби відстрочити виплати депозитів. Такий крок фінустанови пояснили тим, що повернення цих грошей відразу призведе до їхнього банкрутства. "Банк не відмовляється від виконання своїх зобов'язань перед позивачем, але просить відстрочити їх виконання для уникнення наслідків неплатоспроможності", - йдеться в рішенні Господарського суду Києва в справі Платинум Банку.

Врешті-решт суди врахували такий аргумент і надали обом банкам відстрочки у поверненні грошей на кілька місяців.

Регулятор не вирішує проблеми

З початку 2014 року в Україні збанкрутувало вже більше 70 банків. Більша частина з них втратила платоспроможність саме через брак грошей і неможливість вчасно розрахуватися з вкладниками. В НБУ не змогли пояснити, чому не застосовують заходів впливу до банків, які блокують повернення депозитів через суд, пославшись на банківську таємницю. Але неофіційно там розповіли DW, що жодної скарги від вкладників банків нібито не надходило.

Проблеми громадянЮристи радять вкладникам не миритися з ситуацією, що склалась. "Якщо банк з вкладниками не розрахується, а Національний банк своєчасно не введе тимчасову адміністрацію в банк, у подальшому у вкладників з'являться підстави для визнання дій НБУ неправомірними та стягнення збитків з держави Україна", - говорить керуючий партнер адвокатського об'єднання Suprema Lex Віктор Мороз.

У випадках, коли банки не повертають клієнтам гроші, громадяни опиняються ще в більш складній ситуації, ніж підприємства. Для звичайних вкладників все ускладнюється ще й через те, що вони не володіють правдивою інформацією щодо реальної ситуації в банку.

Згідно із законодавством, все що відбувається з банком до дня визнання його неплатоспроможним є банківською таємницею. "Вкладники не мають уявлення про те, які дії вже здійснені НБУ щодо банку і які наслідки це може мати. Відстрочка виконання рішення по стягненню депозиту є тим інструментом, який в подальшому призведе до неодержання вкладником повної суми депозиту, крім гарантованих державою", - говорить адвокат юридичної фірми "U&G Partners" Андрій Безсмертний. Крім того, для громадян, які не можуть повернути з банків свої гроші, затягування з банкрутством означає зависання їхніх вкладів на невизначений термін.

За законом, після того, як банк визнається неплатоспроможним, Фонд гарантування вкладів фізосіб (ФГВФО) розпочинає виплати депозитів на суму до 200 тисяч гривень вже через декілька тижнів.

У фонді визнають, що зараз на ринку багато проблем саме через поганий нагляд за банками в минулому. "Треба було раніше проводити тотальну чистку банківської системи, ще в період, коли вона тільки починала працювати. Тоді зараз у нас би не було стільки неплатоспроможних банків", - говорить директор юридичного департаменту ФГВФО Віктор Новіков.
