21:34
FULL-TIME: Manchester City 3-1 Barcelona
The full-time whistle goes and it's a famous night for Manchester City in the Champions League; and it's a deserved victory over Barcelona.
Barca took a first-half lead through Messi after a typically blistering counter-attack from the Spanish side.
The Premier League side deservedly pulled themselves back into the game when Gundogan tapped home Sterling's well-weighted ball into the box.
And De Bruyne then gave them the lead when De Bruyne expertly sent his second-half free-kick flying past a helpless Ter Stegen.
Gundogan made sure of the victory with another tap-in to seal what was a thoroughly deserved Group C victory.
21:34
Aguero wins last-gasp corner
90+1 mins: Aguero has justified Guardiola's decision to play him with yet another inspiring performance. He may have not scored but he's led the line extremely well and has just won his team a corner. Barca defend.
21:33
Caballero collects the header
90 mins: Barcelona send in a free-kick just as three minutes added time is signalled but Messi's weak header is collected by Caballero.
21:31
THREE MINUTES ADDED TIME
Manchester City are just three minutes away from a famous victory.
21:31
History made at the Etihad...
21:30
Substitution for Barca
88 mins: Barcelona also make a switch as Rafinha comes on for Andre Gomes.
21:29
Substitution for Man City
87 mins: De Bruyne leaves the field to a standing ovation and deservedly so. The Belgium, who has been superb this evening, is replaced by Nolito.
Manchester City's IIkay Gundogan (left) scores his side's third goal of the game
Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero celebrates his side's third goal
21:28
We're into the final five minutes
85 mins: We've entered the final five minutes now and expect Barcelona to throw bodies forward now. Barca do indeed attack but Caballero reads Messi's movement to come out and collect the ball ahead of the superstar.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola (R) and Barcelona's Luis Enrique (L)
21:26
Messi's free-kick deflected for a corner
82 mins: Barcelona have a free-kick but Messi's set-piece is deflected out for a corner via the wall. The Premier League side easily clear their lines and are able to catch their La Liga opponents on the break with Aguero running clear.
His tired legs allow Barcelona to get enough bodies behind the ball and they eventually put the Argentina striker enough pressure for him to lose the ball. End-to-end action now.
21:23
Gundogan taps City into two-goal lead
21:22
Aguero fires into side netting
79 mins: Manchester City playing some lovely football now. Silva jiggles his way through Barca's defence and times his through ball perfectly to play in Aguero. It's a tight angle and the striker can only hit the side netting.
21:20
Borussia Monchengladbach 1-1 Celtic
Even better for Man city as Dembele has just equalised for Celtic in Germany. Should results stay the way they are, City will be three points above their German rivals with two games to play.
21:19
Booking for Barcelona
Busquets was booked in the aftermath of that City goal.
21:15
GOAL: Manchester City 3-1 Barcelona (Gundogan 74 mins)
Barcelona get a taste of their own medicine with Man City catching them on a blistering counter-attack and it's Gundogan who finishes it off with a simple tap-in to double his tally and his side's lead for the evening.
It comes through De Bruyne, who brings the ball forward and Pep's boys work it well down the left.
The ball is then whipped in by substitute Navas and after it fortunately deflects off Aguero who had thrown his body towards it, Gundogan was there to pick up the pieces and send City fans into dreamland.
Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City (L) reacts to missing a chance
21:14
Corner to Barcelona
72 mins: What a huge 18 minutes Manchester City face now and you expect them to begin to tire. Barcelona, however, have been run ragged this half and no doubt there's some tired Barca legs, too.
The Spaniard break down the left and Navas is forced to turn the ball out for a corner.
21:12
Sportsmail's Mike Keegan at the Etihad
The Etihad is absolutely rocking in scenes rarely seen on a European night here. If this competition has not been embraced previously, it has now. Some fans can barely bring themselves to look.
21:12
Substitution for City
71 mins: Raheem Sterling is replaced by Jesus Navas as Pep Guardiola looks for his team to hold on to what will be a memorable victory.
21:11
Messi enduring frustrating second half
68 mins: I've hardly mentioned Messi's name this half; which shows how professional the performance has been from City so far. They've been the much better side, no doubt about it, but you worry Barca will catch them on the counter-attack and break their hearts.
Luis Suarez of Barcelona (L) and Aleksander Kolorov of Manchester City (R) shake hands
21:09
Silva unable to get a shot away
66 mins: Will City go on to regret all these misses?
City again pounce on a loose Barca pass and Gundogan delays his pass before finding Silva clear on the edge of Barca's box. The Spaniard is clear on goal here but good defending pushes him away from the goal and he's forced to run it out of play after delaying his decision.
Manchester City's Raheem Sterling looks dejected
21:07
Barcelona smash the crossbar... and it should be 2-2
64 mins: How has he missed this? Barcelona catch Manchester City on the break with a typically blistering attack and after some fine play from Luis Suarez, Andre Gomes is left one-on-one with Willy Caballero but with a team-mate to his left, he sees his shot hit the crossbar and City hoof the ball away from danger. End-to-end action here.
21:05
De Bruyne misses again
63 mins: It's another agonising miss for City as De Bruyne just misses Kolarov's wonderful ball into the box on the edge of the six-yard line. He was inches away there, and Sterling at the back post is also unable to turn it into the back of the net.
Raheem Sterling of Manchester City and Sergio Busquets of Barcelona clash
21:03
Substitution for Barcelona
61 mins: Turan, the Turkey midfielder, comes on for Rakitic as Enrique rolls the dice in search of an equaliser here.
21:02
Substitution for City
60 mins: Fernando comes on for the injured Fernaninho in a like-for-like substitution. Shame that, he's been superb tonight.
21:01
Booking for Kolarov
59 mins: Kolarov is beaten for pace by Rakitic and catches the Croatian midfielder with a accidental elbow; and he's deservedly booked.
21:00
De Bruyne fires City into the lead
20:58
Aguero inches from scoring a header
56 mins: Barcelona are on the ropes now and Aguero also heads City into a two-goal lead after a wonderful ball into the box by Silva. Manchester City's star man rises high but can't direct his header on target.
20:57
City with another penalty appeal turned down
53 mins: City are on top now and they've another penalty appeal turned down after Aguero goes down under the challenge from Mascherano. Had another look at it and the City man definitely has a case. The former Liverpool midfielder has a tug of Aguero's shirt - although the way he went down perhaps didn't help his case...
20:55
De Bruyne misses glorious chance to double tally
52 mins: A minute after giving them the lead and the Belgium star is inches from doubling his tally. He was hanging at the back post unmarked and when the ball is send into the box, it avoids a sea of bodies and De Bruyne's sliding attempt is a little too late to get anything on the ball. Unfortunate, that.
20:52
GOAL: Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona (De Bruyne 51 mins)
De Bruyne steps up and he smashes this free-kick into the back of Ter Stegen's net with aplomb to give Manchester City the lead.
It's a wonderful set-piece from the Belgian, who puts everything behind it to send the ball over the wall, the ball had plenty of swerve on it, and Barca are shell-shocked.
20:51
City with a free-kick on the edge of Barca's box...
49 mins: Manchester City break down the right with Aguero, who wonderfully brings the ball forward before playing in Silva. The Spaniard is then caught by Busquets on the edge of the Barca box and they've a free kick in a very dangerous position. De Bruyne to step up...
20:50
Otamendi fouls Neymar
48 mins: Neymar is caught by Otamendi with a heavy challenge and he certainly felt that one. The Brazilian takes his time to get up but eventually does.
Sergio Aguero of Manchester City reacts
20:49
Sterling misses glorious chance
46 mins: Less than a minute on the clock in this second period and City should be in the lead. A blistering counter-attack after a quick string of passes sees Sterling free in the box but his first touch is too heavy, taking the ball away from Ter Stegen's goal and he can only hit the side netting.
20:46
SECOND-HALF: City get this Champions League clash back underway
City get this game back underway. What will the next 45 minutes have in store? With Borussia Monchengladbach leading Celtic, the German side would leapfrog the Premier League outfit if things stay this way.
20:45
Gundogan on FIRE
20:42
FIRST-HALF STATS: City 1-1 Barcelona
20:39
Gundogan equalises for City
20:31
HALF-TIME: Manchester City 1-1 Barcelona
An enthralling first-half comes to an end; and we're set for a fascinating second period. City were unfortunate not be awarded a penalty when Sterling appeared to be caught by Umtiti in the Barca box.
Barca then took the lead through Messi after a typically blistering counter-attack from the Spanish side.
The Premier League side, however, deservedly pulled themselves back into the game when Gundogan tapped home Sterling's well-weighted ball into the box.

And they almost completed the comeback but Aguero was inches from meeting the loose ball in the box with a tap-in.
All the play for in the second...
20:30
Barca playing a high line
44 mins: Extraordinary match we're being treated to now. Barca are playing a very high line and City are exploiting it at the moment. This time it's Zabaleta who gets behind the defence and he wins his team a corner. Barca clear their lines, though.
20:29
Fernandinho dives in with a perfectly-times challenge
42 mins: Fernandinho had to get this right; and he certainly did. Messi waltz his way through the City defence but when he reaches the penalty box, Fernandinho comes out of nowhere to challenge the Barca man from behind.
20:28
City almost complete the comeback
40 mins: Wowsers. With the Etihad bouncing, it's almost rocking with Aguero inches from tapping home a quick second. City, who are on the front foot now, catch Barca on the break and when the ball is sent into the box, Aguero can't get on the end of it.
20:24
GOAL: Manchester 1-1 Barcelona (Gundogan 39 mins)
So Barcelona do make mistakes; and they're made to pay for it. Barcelona right back Roberto tries to be too clever atthe back and Aguero latches onto his loose ball on the edge of Barca's box.
The Argentina star quickly sprays the ball to Sterling whose first-touch ball into the box is tapped home by Gundogan. GAME ON.
20:24
City struggling to get the ball clear
37 mins: City can't get the ball away from danger at the moment; with Barcelona winning corner after corner. Stones has just produced to decisive blocks to prevent Barca from testing his goalkeeper.
Pep Guardiola manager of Manchester City (R) gives his team instructions
20:22
Barca moving through the gears now
35 mins: I'll tell you what, it's hard to keep up with this game. Barcelona piling the pressure on now and are attacking every minute.
Firstly, Stones times his block perfectly to stop Suarez's shot from hitting the back of the net.
Then the former Liverpool star somehow plants his header off target when he perhaps should have scored from 10 yards out.
20:20
Neymar does too much in the box
32 mins: Barca break with Suarez bursting down the left flank and when the ball deflects fortunately to Neymar, the Brazilian decides against shooting first time and City are able to put the star under enough pressure that he loses the ball. Big chance for Barca to open the scoring there.
20:18
City waste the free-kick
32 mins: A waste from City as no-one reads De Bruyne's delivery and it goes out for a goal kick.
20:17
Suarez brings down Fernandinho
31 mins: Suarez is down penalised for a foul from behind on Fernandinho. A chance for De Bruyne to whip this into the box; and the defenders are up.
Manchester City's Nicolas Otamendi appears dejected after Barcelona's Lionel Messi scores
20:15
Neymar booked
28 mins: Neymar tries a little too much to squeeze in between two City players and he catches Sterling from behind with a cheeky trip. Deserved red card for the Brazilian.
20:14
Neymar forces a good save at the near post from Caballero
27 mins: Neymar creates some space on the left and lets fly with a powerful shot which Caballero does well to turn it away for a corner. City defend.
20:13
Messi opens the scoring
20:12
Messi pulling the strings
25 mins: It's all Barcelona now, with Messi pulling the strings for the Spanish side. He opts to chip a ball through to Andre Gomes but the midfielder doesn't have quite enough in the tank to latch onto the ball.
20:07
GOAL: Manchester City 0-1 Barcelona (Messi 21 mins)
Their first chance of the evening and the kings of the counter-attack score; undoubtedly against the run of play, too.
City have a free-kick after that foul by Rakitic and when Barca defend, they break through Neymar down the left. The Brazilian runs the wing wonderfully and delays his pass when he approaches the edge of the box before dinking his shoulder and finding Messi.
The Argentina star then has the easy task of slotting past the onrushing Caballero, who perhaps could have spread his body a bit better. That's why their one of the most feared teams in the world...
20:06
Rakitic booked for Barca
19 mins: Rakitic is booked for a late foul.
20:04
Here's pictures of that Sterling incident
20:02
Neymar struggling to get hold of the ball
15 mins: Neymar yet to get into this game but almost plays in Suarez with a wonderful ball from the left wing over to the right. Kolarov sees it coming, though, and sends it out away from danger.
Barcelona's Sergio Busquets challenges Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan
19:59
City not allowing Barca to settle
13 mins: Fabulous start from City; they haven't allowed Barcelona to settle at all. Messi has just dropped back into the defensive midfield position to get hold of the ball. But can Pep's boys keep this work-rate up for 90 minutes? That's the big question.
Neymar of Barcelona gets away from Pablo Zabaleta of Manchester City
19:58
Sterling goes down in the penalty area.. but he's booked!
10 mins: Big call as Manchester City catch Barcelona on the break and after Aguero plays in Sterling, the England winger goes down in the area under a challenge by Umtiti. City fans think they have themselves a penalty but Kassai opts to book Sterling for simulation.
There was contact, no doubt about it, but on second look the City man does perhaps throw himself to the turf...
19:56
Fernandinho catches Rakitic
8 mins: Two minutes after Digne escapes a booking for Barcelona, and it's Manchester City who are fortunate not to have a player booked. Fernandinho catches Rakitic with a foul from behind but he walks away with a warning. Messi wastes the delivery.
19:53
Digne fouls Sterling
6 mins: Referee Viktor Kassai with his first decision to make after Digne catches Sterling with a cynical foul from behind. It's a blatant deliberate foul and he's perhaps fortunate to get away without a booking there. City waste the resultant free-kick, too.
19:52
The managers embrace in a hug
Pep Guardiola manager of Manchester City (L) and Luis Enrique of Barcelona (R)
19:51
Mike Keegan at the Etihad
Loud boos for the Champions League anthem here. City fans do not forget.
19:50
Caballero comfortably collects the ball
4 mins: Caballero, who is deputising for the suspended Bravo, with his first involvement of the match and it's a comfortable save for the stopper.
The Manchester City team line up for a photo prior to kick off
19:48
Messi links up well with Suarez
2 mins: MSN have already begun to get a grip on this game, Messi and Suarez in particular linking up well. The former dinks a lovely ball into the latter but he takes perhaps too long on the ball and City can get enough bodies behind the ball to block.
19:46
City put Barca under immediate pressure
1 min: It's clear from the opening seconds of this match that Manchester City are going to be brave tonight. They put an early press on the Barcelona defence but it doesn't take the Spanish side long to attack.
Neymar opts to send in a floated delivery but Stones reads it well to clear from safety.

Here's some other stats for you to tuck into...
Pep Guardiola is facing Barcelona as manager for the second season of his career; as Bayern Munich boss, he was knocked out by the Catalan side in the semi-finals of the 2014/15 Champions League (3-5 on aggregate).
Manchester City are unbeaten in their last six Champions League home games (W4 D2). They’ve never gone seven consecutive games without a defeat at the Etihad in the competition.
Barcelona have won their last three away Champions League games against English clubs, two of which were against Manchester City.
Barcelona have scored in their last 20 away games in the Champions League group stages.
There have been five red cards shown across the five previous meetings between these sides; four of which being awarded to City players, only one of the five encounters has gone without seeing a red brandished.
Seven of Manchester City’s last 10 home Champions League goals have come in the 76th minute or later.
The last five goals recorded by Barcelona against City have seen the direct involvement of Lionel Messi (three goals and two assists).

Messi has scored six goals in this Champions League campaign so far; two more than anybody else despite featuring in only two matches and has scored 15 goals in his last 13 Champions League games against English opposition.
Neymar has recorded five assists already in this year’s competition; three more than any other player.

Suarez plays it for laughs but Neymar doesn't see the funny side
Manchester City have their Tuesday night meeting with Barcelona marked down as 'must-win', but their visitors seem comfortable enough for some playful pranks in training at the Etihad Stadium.
Star trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar linked up on Monday evening to prepare for their Champions League clash and the latter appeared to be the butt of a joke from his team-mates.
Uruguayan striker Suarez spotted an opportunity to knock Neymar off-balance and, with Messi keeping a close eye on proceedings, sent the Brazilian stumbling away by kicking a ball from under his feet.
Neymar, 24, initially appeared to not take to the prank kindly, staring Suarez down as the centre forward backed off.
But his mood seemed to mellow later with the momentarily-fired-up star posting a video of the moment on Instagram.
Neymar could also be seen playfully knocking Suarez to the group later in the session to get his revenge.
